How to Get a Tag Reader to Do Audio Only

LeapFrog's Tag Reading System allows children age 4 and older to experience reading in an interactive manner. Children take their Tag pen and place it on the words inside Tag books, which are specifically made for the system. When the child places her pen on a word or picture in the story, the audio function inside the pen reads aloud the specific word or describes a scene associated with the picture the child has tapped. Children can touch a symbol on the page to hear the story uninterrupted; otherwise, they hear sentences word by word by tapping the pen.

Instructions

  1. Downloading the Audio

    • 1

Make sure your Tag pen is loaded with the book your child will read. If you haven't already done so, download the LeapFrog Connect program onto your computer by inserting the CD that accompanied your Tag Reading System and following the prompts. Or, visit LeapFrog's website and download the program manually (see Resources).

    • 2

Open the tab with the icon of a computer that's located on the side of the Tag pen. Connect one end of the USB cord to the port under that tab and other end of the cord to your computer's USB port.

    • 3

With the LeapFrog Connect program open and your Tag pen powered on and connected to the computer, select the icon of the Tag pen on the screen.

    • 4

Click on "Audio Downloads" on the side of the screen. Select the book you wish to download and click on "Download Audio."

    • 5

The program will notify you when the download is complete. Click the "Eject" button at the top of the screen to safely remove the USB cord and pen from the computer.

    Hearing Audio Only

    • 6

      Turn on the Tag pen.

    • 7

Open the Tag book your child wants to read.

    • 8

On the bottom of the first page is a white triangle inside an orange and white circle. Tap that triangle with the pen. This icon reads the story from beginning to end without interruption. When the pen finishes reading each page aloud, a sound rings notifying your child to turn the page.

    • 9

Alternately, if your child only wants one page read out loud at a time, he can tap on the icon of an open book that precedes the first sentence of each page. The white open-book icon lies inside a purple-and-white circle. Your child will have to tap this icon on each page to have the story read out loud.

    • 10

Stop the audio-only feature at any time by tapping the white square at the bottom of the page. The square is inside a red circle.
