Age-Appropriate Learning
The Leapster sells game cartridges that are according to your child's age and current learning level, so that your child is not attempting to learn above his level. Leapster's range of children's edutainment software teaches writing, science, math and reading.
Interactive Learning
The Leapster is a portable game system that offers interactivity so games aren't static but very dynamic and engaging for children. You can buy interactive ebooks for the Leapster so that your daughter can interact with books and learn as she goes.
Durable and Reusable
LeapFrog created the Leapster with tough kids in mind. The Leapster is made from lightweight material, but is durable enough to withstand frequent dropping and rough play. The Leapster takes four AA batteries in order to run, but you can buy a charger to save on costs. Multiple users can use the Leapster -- just set up multiple accounts on each console, then all the children in your home can log in and play games according to their skill level.
Learning Tracker
The Leapster comes with the ability to program a parent's account. With this account, you can log on and track your child's learning process. The Leapster can automatically send updates to your email account, and you can see graphs charting your child's progress on the games and ebooks he interacts with.
Expensive Cartridges
Cartridges for the Leapster are expensive. You may need multiple cartridges depending on your child's skill and age level. You'll also have to buy additional cartridges for ebooks and other interactive games that your child is interested in playing. Themed cartridges cost more than general cartridges. Newer versions of Leapster, such as the Leapster Explorer, aren't compatible with older cartridges from different Leapster models. Each LeapFrog model comes with a free application; however, this game does not provide much educational value, according to InteractiveLearningToys.com.
