Open the battery cover on the back of the Leapster 2 and insert four AA batteries according to the "+" and "-" symbols printed on the inside of the compartment. Once the batteries are inserted, replace the cover. Hold down the "Power" button until the screen lights up; wait for the system to load.
Use the navigation arrows to select your country and language that appears on the first screen the first time you turn on the device. Press the "Enter" button to choose your selection. You will then be prompted to create a player name for your child. Use the on-screen keyboard to type a name and press "Enter" to save.
Insert the LeapFrog Connect CD that came with the Leapster 2 into your computer. Wait for the installation wizard to appear. Click "Next" to begin installing the software. Wait for the status bar to reach 100 percent, then click "Finish" on the screen to complete installation. Double-click on the "LeapFrog Connect" icon on your desktop to start the software.
Click on the "Start Here" button on the opening screen. You will be prompted to type in a parent name and password that you will use to manage your device and applications. Write down this information, as you will need it to add or remove applications from the device.
Connect the provided USB cable to the port on the Leapster 2 when prompted by the program. Connect the other end of this cable to an open USB port on your computer. The computer will establish a connection with the device.
Click "Games," and choose your child from the list of players on the main screen after the devices have been connected. You will then see a list of games you can add to the Leapster 2. Follow the on-screen directions for installing each individual game.
