How to Backup Leapster Games

The LeapFrog company is known for making educational games for children using the latest technology. One of the company's most popular toys is the Leapster series, which includes Leapster, Leapster 2 and the Leapster Explorer. These educational hand-held gaming systems allow children to learn math, phonics, spelling, foreign languages and more. Parents can back up the games on a computer and use the backup information to track a child's progress, spot strengths and weaknesses and even control how much time the child spends playing.

Instructions

  Visit the LeapFrog.com website (see Resources). Scroll down to the "Download LeapFrog Connect" in the menu on the left-hand side of the screen. Follow the on-screen directions to download and install LeapFrog Connect to your computer. This is the program you will use to back up your Leapster toy.

  Plug the gaming device's included USB cord into the Leapster hand-held game system and plug the other end into your computer. Hit the power button on the Leapster game to turn it on, and the LeapFrog Connect program will automatically open.

  Sign in on the welcome screen. If you do not have an account and have not registered your game system, you will be prompted to do so now. Follow the on-screen instructions. This will need to be done only once.

  Choose the name of the child you would like to make a backup for and click on that child's name. LeapFrog Connect will begin backing up all of that child's time played, scores, levels completed and any other information saved by the game. It will now all be available to you in the LeapFrog Connect program.

  Turn off the Leapster and turn it back on to log into another child's account and back up his gaming history, repeating Step 4. Back up the Leapster once a week if your child plays daily and at least once per month if the child plays less frequently.
