How to Make the Leap Frog Phonics Train Go Around the Track

The LeapFrog Phonics Railroad contains train tracks, trains and alphabet blocks designed to teach letters and sounds to young children. Assorted alphabet blocks fit in the train. With different alphabet blocks in place, the train will name letters, say letter sounds, play songs and make train noises. The blocks, which children can easily take in and out of the train, also play a part in how the battery-operated train runs.

Things You'll Need

  • Philips screwdriver
  • 4 AA batteries

Instructions

    • 1

Use the screwdriver to remove the screw holding the battery compartment on the underside of the train. Insert the four batteries according to the diagram to match the polarities of the batteries. Close the compartment door and fasten the screw back in with the screwdriver.

    • 2

Slide the switch beside the smokestack to the "low" or "high" position to turn on the engine.

    • 3

Place the engine and the coal car on the train track. Snap the caboose to the coal car with their plastic connectors.

    • 4

Place an alphabet block into the coal car. Push down on the block until a red light appears on the coal car. The image facing up on the alphabet block determines whether the moving train will play a song, say the letter on the block, or just make train noises.

    • 5

Press the "Go" button on the top of the train to start the train. Press the "Go" button again at any time to stop the train.
