Space Age Crystal Incubator Directions

With the Space Age Crystal Incubator, children can "grow" their own crystals. Once you've placed a rock in the incubator and added the correct chemicals, crystals will begin to appear on the rock after a few hours. The crystals will continue to grow over several days, producing permanent crystals that can be handled and displayed. Crystal kits are sold in a variety of colors, and the final product resembles crystals found in nature, such as quartz. The chemicals in the crystal-growing solution are monoammonium phosphate and alum.

Instructions

    • 1

Dissolve the crystal-growing chemical in hot water while stirring. Use a ratio of 6 tbsps. of chemical to 1/2 cup of water.

    • 2

Pour the solution into the Space Age Crystal Incubator.

    • 3

Place a small rock into the incubator. Crystals will begin to form within a few hours and will adhere to the rock.

    • 4

Allow the crystals to grow in the solution for two to seven days. After this time, the crystals can be removed from the solution if desired. If left in the solution, the crystals will continue to grow larger as the solution begins to evaporate. The crystals are permanent and should last for years.
