DIY Flannel Board

Flannel fabric will stick to flannel or felt. The fuzzy surface of the flannel will hold up small pieces of felt or paper pictures with a felt backing. Flannel boards are great for telling stories by moving paper figures around the board to illustrate the action. They are also a clean, safe art medium. Children can create pictures by arranging small shapes of colored felt on the board.

Instructions

    • 1

Lay the flannel right-side-down on a flat surface.

    • 2

Center the foam core board on the flannel.

    • 3

Run a line of glue down one long side of the board, 1/2 inch from the edge. Stop 1 inch from each corner.

    • 4

Fold the edge of the flannel over the edge of the board, onto the glue. Glue down the opposite side in the same way; stretch the flannel tightly.

    • 5

Glue down the other two sides in the same way.

    • 6

Cut off the corners of the flannel ,1/2 inch from the point. Fold in each corner at a 45-degree angle. Glue down the folded edges on the back of the board. The folded edges should just touch each other, forming a mitered corner.

    • 7

Glue 1-inch strips of felt on the back of the pictures you wish to place on the board. Cut shapes from felt to place on the board.
