When Did They Invent LEGO Wheels?

The LEGO® Group was founded in 1932 by Ole Kirk Christiansen. The iconic LEGO brick was patented in 1958; shortly thereafter the interlocking system of play was introduced. In 1961 the LEGO wheel was invented. Trains and motors were introduced to the LEGO line in 1966.

      The first LEGO bricks were wooden; production of plastic bricks began in 1942.

    • LEGO figures were all originally yellow-skinned with happy faces.

      LEGO figures were introduced in 1974 and brought about more creative play. In 1998 LEGO Group formed an exclusive agreement with Lucasfilm Ltd. to develop LEGO sets based on the Star Wars movies.

    Fun fact

    • The company name, LEGO, was created by the founder of the company who shortened and combined the two Danish words "leg godt," which meant "play well." Unbeknownst to him, the Latin word "LEGO" meant "I put together."
