Tag Learning System
Leapfrog's Tag Reading System may appear to be an over-sized pen, but it does amazing things. The program offers books featuring some of kids' most-beloved cartoon characters like Disney's Princesses, Dora The Explorer and Olivia. The books are filled with easy-to-read stories made up of beginning-reader words. At any time, if the child becomes stuck on a word, they can touch the word with the Tag pen and it will say the word for her. The entire story can be read with the pen or by the child with the pen only helping on tough words. The system comes with one book; others can be purchased separately.
Leapster
Leapfrog's second most-popular toy for teaching language is called Leapster. This hand-held mini game console can host any number of games that teach basic learning skills. It is easy to navigate and portable. It comes in the standard green, pink and blue. The system comes with three basic games along with a carrying case and earphones. Additional games can be purchased separately. Games for the Leapster include those that teach letter recognition, word recognition and spelling.
Read Along DVD
Younger learners can begin their language skills with the Sing Along and Read Along DVD sets. Each set comes with a set of books. Just pop the DVD into your player and children can follow along in their books with the narration and animation on screen.
Letter Factory and Word Factory
Leapfrog makes two movies that teach letter and word recognition and beginning reading skills. These movies are called "Letter Factory" and "Word Factory." In "Letter Factory," animated characters engage children in a story that helps them to memorize what letters look like and the sounds they make. In "Word Factory," children learn how to sound out and recognize beginning-level words.
