How to Build a Star Wars LEGO Set

Lego is one of the most popular building toys in the world, and the Star Wars sets are its most popular line. Often challenging, but without being frustrating, Lego brings the Star Wars universe to life in a fun and interactive way.

Instructions

  1. Preparation

    • 1

Choose where you will build your model. It is important to have good light, especially for spotting small pieces, so a lamp can be handy for illuminating the building area. To prevent lost pieces, build your model in a box or a plastic storage container. Another option is assembling your model on a towel, which will prevent pieces from bouncing and will make them easier to spot.

    • 2

Lego kits come in simple cardboard boxes that are filled with several bags of parts. Empty the bags into your building area. If the bags are numbered, keep the contents separate. Put aside the instruction booklet.

    • 3

Sort your parts. Many simpler models come in prenumbered bags, so you can sort them before you begin, building pieces of the model at a time, then putting them together to complete the model. If your model is not presorted, sort the mini figures apart, as well as the small, sophisticated pieces such as colored glass, levers, weapons, etc. You may want to put these in a separate container. Put flat, platform pieces aside and make a separate pile of the largest bricks. This will help you keep track of the parts when you start building.

    Building Your Model

    • 4

Read through the instruction manual once before you begin. You are just looking for how the model is generally put together before you actually start assembling it. Many Lego models have quite elaborate steps that can be disorienting when you get to them, so an overview of the model before you begin can be quite helpful.

    • 5

Begin building the model. Many Lego instructions clearly illustrate which parts are used in which step of the model's construction. If this is the case, find every part for the step before you actually begin to follow the instructions. Follow the instructions carefully, as one missing part can have serious repercussions later on.

    • 6

Finish following the instructions. The later steps will tend to be more complicated. The last few steps will be the simplest, usually placing a few detail parts, lights and weapons.

    • 7

Familiarize yourself with how the Lego model works. Many Lego models, particularly the Star Wars ones, have complicated moving parts, and assembling the model does not always give you a good idea of how the model operates. Make sure you understand how it works before you play with it.
