How to Make Fluorescent Slime
Make kid-friendly fluorescent slime: Mix 2/3 cup of liquid white glue and 2/3 cup of water. Use a wooden stick to slowly stir in 2/3 cup of liquid laundry starch. Add a few drops of neon-hued food coloring and you're done. The slime glob will look like a thick puddle and is suitable to be mashed and thrashed by youngsters.
Make slime with a fluorescent flash: This mixture is essentially the same as above, but with a few variations. Mix a batch of powdered Borax laundry booster following the directions on the box. This is sometimes less expensive than liquid starch. Add ½ cup of white liquid glue to ½ cup of the starch mixture. Add 6 to 10 drops of lime green food color as the mixture is prepared. As the final step, mix in fluorescent sparkles. Shine the black light on the slime. Add more sparkles to personal taste. This slime is suitable for making a plastic container toy (such as a "bag of slime") or it can be used as a classroom science experiment. The mixing process allows students to experiment with the chemical transformation between liquids and solids. Once the slime has clumped, place it directly into the plastic zippered bag. Seal the zipper with glue so the slime doesn't leak out as children squeeze the contents. Children should not be allowed to mix the slime with bare hands since the laundry booster may create allergic reactions.
Make hyper-fluorescent slime: Remove the wick from a fluorescent highlighter and place it into a dish filled with approximately ½ cup of water. Soak for approximately an hour. Use a wooden stick or plastic spoon to squeeze the wick to remove all of the ink. Discard the wick. Then pour 1 cup of liquid white glue into a glass bowl. Gradually add 1 cup of clear water to the glue. Fold in 1 cup of liquid laundry starch with the stick or spoon. As the mixture begins to gel, add a few teaspoons of the highlighter water. Continue this process until the laundry starch is completely mixed. Place the mixture under a black light and add the remainder of the highlighter water to visual preference. Place the slime into thick plastic, zippered-top bags. Glue the zipper to ensure the bag will not open when it is used. This slime should not come into contact with hands or face. Avoid contact with clothing since the ingredients will also discolor fabric.
Test the slimes: Make all three variations and allow children to determine the favorite.
