How to Make Ooblek

Ooblek is the perfect play glop. It's easy to make, easy to clean up and fascinating to play with. The surface is hard and crusty, but when you scoop it up it's fluid enough to pass through a strainer. It will stimulate your child's senses and imagination. You probably have everything you need right in your pantry, so you can go make some ooblek right now if you want to.

Things You'll Need

Water
Cornstarch
Dishpan
Food coloring (optional)
Kitchen utensils (optional)

Instructions

  Measure out two parts cornstarch and one part water.

  Combine the cornstarch and water in the dishpan.

  Stir until the mixture begins to thicken.

  Give your kids spoons, plastic shovels, funnels strainers, and various other kitchen utensils, and let them explore with the ooblek.

  Let your kids drop a little food coloring onto the ooblek and swirl it around. Observe what happens.

  Clean up with soap and water.
