How to Wash the Lamaze Octopus

The Lamaze Octotunes Octopus is a colorful baby toy that makes musical notes when the tentacles are squeezed. Many babies love this toy and it ends up in their mouths. That can be a problem because the the company recommends only spot cleaning. If you throw the octopus into a washing machine or hand wash it in the sink, you will ruin the mechanisms that create the music. Anyone who has been around babies knows that spot cleaning often isn't enough. To better clean the octopus, try a detergent pen or an in-the-dryer steam cleaner.

Instructions

    • 1

Wet a soft, clean cloth. Wring it out very well.

    • 2

Wipe the Lamaze Octotunes Octopus with the damp cloth. The manufacturer recommends only surface cleaning the toy. It cannot go in the washing machine or be immersed in water because the musical mechanisms will be ruined.

    • 3

Spot clean fresh baby spills with a detergent pen, such as Tide-to-Go. Blot the area with a clean cloth. Let the octopus dry completely before giving it back to your baby. You may want to test the octopus for colorfastness on the bottom of the toy before cleaning any spots on areas that are more easily seen.

    • 4

Dry clean at home in the dryer using an in-the-dryer steam-cleaning product, such as Dryel. Follow the manufacturer's directions, but use a low dryer setting instead of a medium setting to avoid damaging any of the parts inside the octopus. The toy should be slightly damp to the touch when taken out of the dryer. Allow the octopus to dry completely. According to the Dryel website, it is completely safe to use the product around children, babies, the unborn and pregnant women.
