How to Make Thumb Wrestlers Step-by-Step

Thumb wrestling is a fun pastime often played by children. Children link four fingers on one hand with four fingers of a partners' hand. The thumbs are left free to move, and must be facing up. Partners compete to "wrestle" the other's thumb down. The winner of the match is determined by the first person able to press and hold the other's thumb down for roughly three seconds. Making thumb wrestling puppets is a creative way to enhance this friendly game with fun and excitement.

Instructions

    • 1

Press your thumb onto a flat piece of felt.

    • 2

Place the tip of a pen one-half inch to the right of the knuckle on the thumb. Trace the arc of the upper half of your thumb -- from knuckle to knuckle -- maintaining this half-inch gap. Repeat steps 1 and 2 using a second piece of felt.

    • 3

Cut out the felt pieces and place them both flush atop one another.

    • 4

Sew the arc of the two felt pieces together, leaving an opening at the bottom.

    • 5

Cut and glue alternate pieces of felt to one or both sides of the felt arc. Choose different colors of felt and use different shapes to create fun characters, such as pirates or animals. Color or paint the felt with markers or acrylics to boost the look and detail of the thumb puppet.
