How to Remove Paint From a Berenguer

Berenguer dolls have been produced since the 1940s and have a reputation for lasting quality, so much so that many parents end up passing their own Berenguer dolls down to their own children. One element of a Berenguer doll that suffers over time, however, is the paintwork. This can be remedied by removing the paint from your Berenguer doll and reapplying a new coat, giving the doll a new lease of life. Modifying original dolls will affect their value as collectibles, but unique "reborn" doll can have long, happy lives too.

Instructions

    • 1

Lay some newspaper over the floor to protect your surfaces, and open windows in the room you will be working in. Acetone gives off strong fumes.

    • 2

Wearing gloves, soak the cotton pad with acetone and begin wiping away the paint from your Berenguer doll. Start with the hair and then remove paint from the tops of the ears, neck and the rest of the head.

    • 3

Change cotton pads as soon as the one you are using becomes discolored. Use a toothbrush to get into grooves on the doll and to remove paint from features such as the eyebrows.

    • 4

Wash the doll in warm, soapy water as soon as you have finished removing the paint, otherwise the acetone will begin to corrode the plastic of the doll.
