How to Get Tamagotchi Characters

Bandai's Tamagotchi line of digital toys lets you raise Tamagotchi pet characters using the device's display. In order to play with these characters, however, you must first hatch them from their eggs. As of publication, the latest version of the Tamagotchi devices gives you three eggs to start with, each of which can be hatched using the same methods.

  Pull the plastic tab on the side of the Tamagotchi device to wake the device.

  Insert a paperclip into the reset hole on the back of the device and press the reset button.

  Press the "B" button to bring up the date and time screen screen. Press the "A" button to scroll through the different options and press the "B" button to select an option. Use these two buttons to set the current date and time.

  Press the "A" and "B" buttons to set your birthday, again using the "A" button to scroll through the choices and the "B" button to select the correct choice. Once you have entered your birthday, you will be returned to the main screen and your Tamagotchi eggs will appear.

  Use the "A" and "B" buttons to create a five character name for your Tamagotchi family. As before, "A" allows you to scroll through the letters and "B" allows you to select a letter.

  Wait five minutes. After five minutes, your Tamagotchi eggs will hatch and you will be able to interact with your Tamagotchi characters.
