How to Make a Bubble Toy

Bubbles have remained a classic children's toy throughout many generations. Watching a soapy water solution transform magically into lightweight, delicate bubbles ignites children's curiosity and fascination with the world. There are two types of bubble toys that you can easily create at home. A bubble blower enables your child to create foamy masses of bubbles that she can use as bubble beards and wigs. You also may use common household items such as a Styrofoam plate to make a bubble wand for forming bubbles that float midair.

Instructions

  1. Homemade Bubble Blower

    • 1

Poke a small hole through a plastic cup near the rim. Make the hole just large enough that a straw can fit through it.

    • 2

Secure a piece of felt over the top of the cup with two rubber bands.

    • 3

Cut a straw in half at an angle.

    • 4

Insert the slanted end of one straw half through the hole you created.

    • 5

Distribute a layer of dish soap evenly over the felt on top of the cup.

    • 6

Fill a spray bottle with water, and spray a generous amount of water onto the top of the felt.

    • 7

Blow air through the straw sticking out of the side of the cup to set the bubble blower into action. A thick lather of bubbles will form at the top of the toy before your eyes.

    Homemade Bubble Wand

    • 8

Cut a large, circular hole through the center of a Styrofoam plate.

    • 9

Hot-glue a wooden craft stick to one end of the plate to serve as a handle for holding the bubble wand.

    • 10

Mix 1 gallon of lukewarm water with 10 ounces of dish soap and 6 tablespoons of glycerin in a large bowl. Pour some of the bubble solution into an aluminum pan when you are finished mixing.

    • 11

Dip the plate end of the wand into the bubble solution.

    • 12

Swish the wand through the air to create bubbles.
