How to Make Bread Clay With Detergent

If you are looking for a way to get creative with your children or want a rainy-day activity to do at home, you can make your own clay out of bread. It's an easy process and the finished product will look similar to the kind of clay you can buy at any crafts store. However, after making a sculpture with it, it is not remoldable. The clay you make will allow you to make your own design and then you can paint it to put the finishing touches.

Instructions

    • 1

Place six pieces of bread in a bowl with a 1/2 teaspoon of detergent and 6 tablespoons of white glue. Remove the crusts from the bread before you mix the ingredients.

    • 2

Knead the mixture firmly until it is no longer sticky. Separate the mixture into four bowls.

    • 3

Tint the separated portions with food coloring. Have your child mold the clay into shapes.

    • 4

Brush the sculptures with a mixture of water and glue so they will hold their appearance. Let them dry overnight.

    • 5

Paint the creation with acrylic paints to further secure the sculptures and give them a finished appearance.
