How to Keep Your Play-Doh From Getting Cracked

Play-Doh provides hours of fun for younger crafters. It allows them to be creative and make interesting sculptures, which help to develop their fine motor skills. Their imaginations have free rein when playing with this versatile modeling compound. This fun and inexpensive toy is a real asset to your child's playtime. When it dries out, it becomes cracked. Although you can revive your wilting Play-Doh, prevention is better than cure. Follow these tips and take good care to ensure its longevity.

Things You'll Need

Plastic container with lid
Plastic wrap
Plastic cake dome (optional)
Water
Paper towel

Instructions

  Cover the working surface with a layer of plastic wrap. This not only protects your surface from getting Play-Doh on it, but also protects the compound from getting debris stuck in it.

  Leave the Play-Doh out only as long as your children are playing with it. As soon as they are done, gather it up and place it back into a container with a lid so it doesn't dry out.

  Store sculptures you want to keep in transparent cake domes. This prevents them from cracking and allows you to reuse the Play-Doh in the future.

  Add a drop of water to the Play-Doh if it has started to crack. Knead well. Continue to add water, kneading well between applications until the compound regains its texture. You can also place a damp paper towel into the container with the Play-Doh overnight.
