How to Make a Peek-a-Boo Puppet

Peek-a-boo puppets can provide a lot of enjoyment to babies. These classic toys have entertained children for generations, and you can make one for your own kids out of a sock and a plastic drinking cup. Because these puppets are fairly simple to make, you may find yourself making several of them with different features. This is also a project that you can share with older children, so long as you handle the drill and hot glue gun.

  • 1/4-inch wooden dowel

Instructions

    • 1

Drill a 3/8-inch hole in the bottom of a plastic drinking cup.

    • 2

Cut a 15-inch piece of 1/4-inch wooden dowel with a saw.

    • 3

Shove one end of the dowel into a 2-inch Styrofoam ball.

    • 4

Cut 7 inches off the toe end of a sock.

    • 5

Insert the Styrofoam ball into the sock and gather the material underneath it. Sew the gathered material closed, forming a head and neck.

    • 6

Cut arms out of the remaining portions of the sock and sew them to the puppet's sides.

    • 7

Insert the dowel through the cup's hole from the inside.

    • 8

Hot glue the cut edge of the sock to the interior lip of the cup.

    • 9

Further decorate the puppet with googly eyes, puffy paint or any other art materials.
