Paper Jamz Guitar Tricks

Introduced in 2010 by WowWee, Paper Jamz guitars are paper-thin musical instruments that respond to touches and gestures without the use of physical buttons, knobs or keys. Each guitar features an internal speaker and is preloaded with three songs. Despite the lack of physical strings or knobs, you can perform many tricks on a Paper Jamz guitar just as you would on a real instrument as well as pull off some special maneuvers.
  1. Palm Mute

    • To play with a palm mute while playing in Rhythm or Freestyle modes, press on the bridge with the base of your palm. You can continue to strum while holding the base of your palm on the bridge to produce a muted chord sound.

    Loop Your Song

    • In Perfect Play and Rhythm modes, you can set your song to play in a continuous loop. When the song is reaching the final chorus, press on frets 1 and 3 until the chorus has finished. The song will play again when it ends unless you repeat this action. To stop the song from finishing, press and hold the Mode knob.

    Performance Effects

    • You can apply performance effects to notes and/or chords to create your own solos, but effects can only be applied to chords as long as you keep changing the positions of your fingers on the frets. To bend the pitch of notes and chords, slide your finger on the Ripstrip. Sliding toward the guitar head bends pitch down, while sliding your fingers away from the guitar head bends the pitch up. You can also make use of your Paper Jamz guitar's accelerometer. Point the neck of the guitar up to play notes an octave higher. Shake the guitar head to add vibrato.

    Advanced Tricks

    • You can play your Paper Jamz guitar like the real thing. Just strum a note or chord and then change which frets you are touching. You can apply these techniques to notes and chords, but like performance effects, they can only be performed with chords as long as you keep switching fret positions. To perform a hammer-on, play a note, and while it's still ringing, tap repeatedly on a fret higher up the neck. For a pull-off, the opposite of a hammer-on, pull your finger off while a note is still ringing. You can also generate a note by tapping the fretboard with your strumming hand or play one note, then slide your finger up or down the fretboard to a different fret.
