Things You'll Need
Instructions
Pour 2 cups unbleached flour, 1 cup cornstarch and 1 teaspoon cream of tartar into a large cooking pot.
Add 1 cup water and 1/2 cup canola oil to the pot. Cook the ingredients over medium heat, stirring occasionally, until the mixture begins to thicken, or approximately four to five minutes.
Add 3 drops to 4 drops natural food coloring to the pot. Stir the food coloring into the ingredients and add more until the desired color is achieved. Natural food coloring is manufactured from food extracts and contains no artificial dyes or chemicals
Allow the mixture to cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, for an additional three to four minutes.
Remove the large pot from the heat and allow the mixture to cool for 10 to 15 minutes.
Remove the cooled dough from the cooking pot and place it onto a lightly floured surface. Knead the dough until the clay is pliable.
Store the homemade, salt-free clay in an airtight container or zippered plastic bag.
