How to Make Your Yo-Yo String Adjustable

The yo-yo has been a popular toy in the United States since their introduction to the market in the 1920s. All kids, young and old, can learn to do tricks with a yo-yo. The yo-yo string must fit firmly on your middle finger without slack to do tricks correctly. If the string is too loose, the yo-yo will twist and not go in the correct direction. Tying the end of the string correctly makes a fully adjustable finger loop.

Instructions

    • 1

Set your yo-yo on a table and extend the string out on the table.

    • 2

Make a double overhand knot in the end of the string. Loop the tip of the string over the remaining string about 4 inches from the tip to form a 1-inch loop. Pass the loose end of the string behind the loop and pull it forward through the loop. Place a pinkie finger in the loop and tighten the knot.

    • 3

Lay the tip of the string next to the long length of string that is tied to the yo-yo. Pass the string tip behind the long length to form a loop. Pass the tip through the loop from front to back and pull the tip and long string tightly to finish the knot.

    • 4

Grasp the long length of string a few inches below the knot. Insert it through the loop on the string end and pull up a loop on top of the knot. Place your finger in the top loop that you just made and pick up the yo-yo. Let the yo-yo hang down and the knot will adjust to the size of your finger.
