How to Solve a Rubik's Cube Fast

The Rubik's Cube has been baffling players for decades. Matching up all the right colors takes a lot of practice. However, there's a simple method that can help you solve the Rubik's Cube quickly -- professional players have used it to solve the Rubik's Cube in fewer than 30 seconds. Mastering this type of speed takes practice, and will require a significant amount of your time.

Instructions

    • 1

Place the Rubik's Cube in your hands. Understand that, throughout these instructions, the "front" of the cube is the side facing you in your left hand. The back side is the side opposite the the front. The "right" side is the side facing you in your right hand while the "left" side is the side opposite this side. Turn each side when indicated.

    • 2

Turn the cube so that the side with the white center is facing upwards. Find all the white pieces that are in the center row. Note the color in the center piece on the "right" side of the cube. Find the white side piece that shares this color (a "side" piece refers to a piece that sits in-between the corner pieces).

    • 3

Move the cube until the right-side white piece you found earlier is in position next to the white center piece. Move the other three white side pieces into position to create a white "cross" on top of the cube.

    • 4

Turn the top until the white cross is in the correct position. Check the correct position by noting the center piece on the four sides of the cube adjacent to the top. The color shared by a white piece in the cross should match the center piece on the side next to which it is positioned.

    • 5

Find a white corner piece on the bottom of the cube. Take note of its position: if it's on the front side, rotate the front layer, then the bottom and then the front layer to put it into position. Rotate the right side, the down side and the right side if it's on the right side.

    • 6

Repeat Step 5 with the rest of your white pieces to finish your top side completely.

    • 7

Flip your cube over to the bottom side and find an edge piece that doesn't have yellow on it. Turn your cube so that the center piece of this color is on the front side or in your left hand. Note the color opposite this piece.

    • 8

Turn the bottom of your cube until the edge piece you found earlier is facing down and on the back of the cube.

    • 9

Find the center piece of the color you found on the opposing side of the cube from Step 7. Turn the right side of the cube to the front if the opposing color is on this side. Flip the sides using this method: front, down, front, down, right, down and right. Skip this step if the opposing color is on the left side.

    • 10

Turn the left side of the cube to the front if the opposing color is on the left side. Flip the sides in this method: front, down, front, down, left, down and left. Repeat this process to finish two rows along the sides of the cube.

    • 11

Check your cube to make sure it has a completed white face and that the two rows closest to the white face on the front and back are completely solved. Turn the cube until the yellow side is on the top and the white is on the bottom.

    • 12

Count the number of yellow spaces on the top and apply the following methods based on the number of pieces on the top. Rotate the cube back, left, up, left, up and back if there are two pieces on the top cube opposite each other. Rotate back, up, left, up, left and back if you have two adjacent edges.

    • 13

Use a combination of the methods in Step 12 to make a cross on the top yellow side. Note the number of unsolved sides. At this point, the bottom side of the cube should be solved, as should the two bottom rows on four sides.

    • 14

Move the blue side into your front position. Find the yellow-side corner piece and take note of its side. Turn it front, down, front, down, front, down, front and down if the yellow cube is on the front side. Flip it down, front, down, front, down, front, down and front if it's on the right side.

    • 15

Repeat Step 14 with the other corner pieces to finish the yellow side. Don't worry if your cube looks messed up after you finish turning the sides. Finish placing all four pieces to correct it.

    • 16

Rotate the top side until a top-edge piece matches the center piece on the front side. Flip the cube so that this side is on the left. Check to make sure your front-edge piece matches the right-center piece. Turn the top twice if it doesn't.

    • 17

Turn the cube right, right, down, right, left, front, front, left, right, up, up, down, right and right. Check the cube to make sure every side is finished but the corners on the remaining sides.

    • 18

Check your corner pieces to find one in the correct spot. Turn the cube left, left, back, back, left, front, left, back, back, left, front and left to bring a corner piece into the right position if none is positioned properly.

    • 19

Turn the cube until the correct corner piece is in on the right side of the front face. Apply the same method as in Step 18 to move the corners to the correct position. Use it a second time if necessary.
