How to Make Moving Slime

Kids enjoy making gooey slime that moves and can be stretched and pulled in many directions. Many slime recipes call for the use of borax or starch. These ingredients are relatively safe to use but can cause allergic reactions for some children. It is simple to make slime that moves by substituting borax and liquid starch with cornstarch.

Instructions

    • 1

Heat the water in the saucepan. The water should be heated until warm, but not to the point of boiling. The reason the water should be heated is it keeps the cornstarch from being lumpy. Slime should have a smooth gooey texture.

    • 2

Pour the water into your bowl and add a few drops of food coloring. The cool thing about making your own slime is that you can make it any color you want. This is where kids can get creative and may elect to mix two colors together. Mixing more than two colors may cause the slime to be brown. Slime is typically green but it can be made in any color you want.

    • 3

Slowly add cornstarch to the mixture of colored water. Keep in mind, the measurement should be one part water to two parts cornstarch.

    • 4

Blend the mixture of cornstarch and colored water until all the clumps are out. You might find it easier to mix with your fingers.

    • 5

Continue to add cornstarch if the consistency is too runny. If the mixture appears to be too thick, simply add more warm water.

    • 6

Store the slime in a sealed container or a zip-top bag so it can stay moist. If the slime becomes dry, it will not move.
