How to Make a Grappling Hook Like Batman's

Batman, with his utility belt and trust fund in the billions, is among the more crafty superheroes in the comic universe. The Dark Knight's grappling hook, among other contraptions, is one of the hero's more prominent gadgets. While donning black hockey pants and taking down the criminal underworld is ill-advised, you can harness some of that bat-ingenuity into making your very own grappling gun (purely for show).

Things You'll Need

  • Hot glue gun
  • Black yarn
  • Dresser wheel
  • Wire cutters
  • Small wooden dowel
  • L-shaped metal pieces
  • Random add-on pieces
  • J-B Weld
  • Hot glue
  • Black electrical tape
  • Black spray paint

Instructions

    • 1

Disassemble the hot glue gun and remove the part that melts the glue while keeping the rest of the gun intact.

    • 2

Test the dresser wheel to see if it fits in the now exposed opening on top of the hot glue gun. Cut little tabs on the dresser wheel using the wire cutters and fold them up so it can hold the yarn in the middle of the spool. Apply a line of glue from to the opening of your gun and attach the dresser wheel.

    • 3

Stick the wooden dowel into the hot glue gun and use a metal piece to measure the length from the barrel of the gun. Mark where the metal piece touches the barrel and where it begins to curve. Cut the dowel using the hacksaw at the curve mark.

    • 4

Flatten three sides of the dowel using the dremel. Weld a metal piece to each side. Wrap the metal pieces using the black electrical tape.

    • 5

Drill a small hole in the bottom of the wooden dowel for the yarn. Spray the dowel and gun with black paint.

    • 6

Tie one end of the dowel using the black yarn and the other end through the hot glue gun and glue it on to the dresser wheel. Roll the spool until the yarn is tight and the grappling hook is inside the gun.
