Things You'll Need
Instructions
Measure the top of the puppet's head along the line where you want the yarn hair to be. Measure from ear to ear for a swept-back look with no bangs. For straight bangs, measure the curved part of the top of the head. Do not include the straight sides of the head above the ears. For very short styles, measure the top of the head where you want the yarn hair.
Draw a line the length you measured down the center of a sheet of paper.
Cut strands of yarn 2-inches longer than the finished length of the hair. Lay the center of the strands along the line on the paper. Place the strands of yarn close together so you cannot see the paper through the yarn. Keep the yarn perpendicular to the line.
Thread the sewing machine with thread that matches the yarn and set it for a straight stitch with a short-stitch length. Sew along the line on the paper. Push the yarn together gently as you sew to prevent gaps between the yarn.
Sew a second seam 1/8-inch away from the first seam. Tear off the paper.
Center the seam along the top of the puppet's head between the ears, and sew it on by hand.
Cut the hair as desired. For a swept-back style, brush all the yarn back and sew a second seam along the top of the puppet's head to hold it in place. Do this before you trim the hair.
Cut bangs straight across the forehead. Brush the hair straight up and cut it straight across the top for a crew cut.
