Instructions

    • 1

Set the compass and draw a circle on the paper about 3 or 4 inches across. Set the compass legs 1/4-inch smaller and make another circle inside the first circle. Leave the compass at the same setting for the next step.

    • 2

Place the point of your compass anywhere on the smaller circle. Make a mark with the compass pencil on the circle. Place the point of the compass on the mark you just made and make another mark on the smaller circle. Keep placing the point on the new mark and making another mark until you have done this around the entire smaller circle. You should have a total of six marks.

    • 3

Draw straight lines with a ruler to connect the compass marks that are across from each other on the smaller circle.

    • 4

Draw three more lines exactly between each of the lines you have just made. Each line will cut the existing section in half. When you are finished, you will have 12 lines that extend out from the center of the circle, and the smaller circle will be divided into 12 pieces, like a pie.

    • 5

Starting at the center of the circle and cutting very carefully, cut every one of the 12 lines that you just drew. Do not cut out either of the circles.

    • 6

Fold any one of the triangular, cutout sections to make it at a right angle to the paper. Crease the fold. Fold the next triangle in the exact opposite direction as the last and crease it. Turning and folding, work your way all around the circle until you have six triangles sticking out one way and six sticking out the other way.

    • 7

Cut out the outer circle and remove the ball from the paper. Put the ball on the ground and wait for just a slight breeze to hit it. Enjoy the show as it whips across the playground.
