How to Make a Projectile Out of a Pen

A pen's lifespan doesn't have to end when its ink runs dry. Bring it back to life by turning it into a projectile. Pass some time in your cubicle doing target practice, but be careful not to aim this high-powered gun at people or pets.

Things You'll Need

  • Retractable ball-point pen
  • Pliers (optional)
  • Small, uninflated balloon
  • Masking tape

Instructions

    • 1

Pull the top plunger from the barrel, twist off the tapered writing tip, remove the ink cartridge and the spring. If some of the parts are hard to remove, use pliers.

    • 2

Dispose of the plunger, spring and tapered writing tip. You will be left with a hollow pen barrel and the ink cartridge.

    • 3

Affix the opening of the uninflated balloon to one end of the pen barrel using masking tape. Loop it around three or four times to ensure the seam is secure.

    • 4

Drop in the ink cartridge into the pen barrel on the side not holding the balloon so that the writing end of the ink cartridge is facing away from the balloon.

    • 5

Hold the barrel in one hand. Grab the bottom of the ink cartridge through the balloon in your other hand. Pull back on the balloon and ink cartridge. When ready to shoot, release the balloon and ink cartridge.
