How to Troubleshoot a Tonka Bounce Back Racer

The Tonka Bounce Back Racer is a Playskool brand remote-control car designed for small children ages 3 and up. This electronic car is colorful, soft and bouncy, and features a wireless controller with large, simple controls. Little ones get a kick out of running this car into the wall, then watching it either bounce back or flip over; that is, until they stop working. If you are having issues with your Tonka Bounce Back Racer, take a few minutes to find and repair the problem. A quick fix, and you can have your little one up and playing again.

Instructions

    • 1

Check the Bounce Back Racer for any dirt or debris that may have accumulated in the wheels. It is possible that the toy may have picked up dirt that led to a loss of movement. Use a soft, damp washcloth to wipe away any dirt. Allow it dry before operating.

    • 2

Make sure the "On/Off" switch on the bottom of the car is in the "On" position.

    • 3

Slide the power switch to the "Off" position if the car stops working. Wait 5 seconds, then slide the switch back to the "On" position. If it is still not working, slide the power switch to off and leave it off for 5 minutes.

    • 4

Turn the car and the remote control over. Use a Phillips screwdriver to loosen and remove the screws on each battery compartment. Remove the covers and set them aside. Use a soft cloth to gently wipe the battery contacts inside each battery compartment.

    • 5

Insert one 9-volt battery into the controller, and six AA batteries into the car. Make sure the batteries are installed according to the polarity guides inside each compartment. Replace the covers and tighten each screw.

    • 6

Use fresh alkaline batteries in the controller and car. Brand new batteries will last up to 10 hours in the controller, and up to two hours in the car -- depending on continuous usage. Do not mix old, new or rechargeable batteries.

    • 7

Move the toy to another area of your house if you are having trouble controlling the car. Minor electrical interference could be causing the toy to not work properly. Turn the car off, then back on, to resume normal play.
