How to Do the Over Under Boing Boing

Doing the "over under boing boing" trick is one of the more advanced yo-yo tricks to perform. Quick and precise handwork is required to manipulate the yo-yo string to create the trick and not get the yo-yo tangled up. The trick uses a series of looping the string around your fingers to position the yo-yo between the strings. The boing boing effect then is executed while the yo-yo is spinning.

Instructions

    • 1

Throw the yo-yo downward to create a strong spin and extend the string fully.

    • 2

Push your pointer finger from the opposite hand against the middle of the string. Pull the string upward to loop it over your finger.

    • 3

Stick out your pointer finger of the hand that is attached to the yo-yo string and press against the string near the yo-yo. Flip the spinning yo-yo over your finger away from you to loop it over your finger. This is called a split bottom out, which sets you up for the "over under boing boing" trick. This is the difficult part of performing the trick. Practice looping the string over your fingers evenly. This part will become quicker as you get better.

    • 4

Raise your hand that is looped nearest the yo-yo to bring the yo-yo up near you. It will be hanging in between the two ends of the string in your hands. Your hands should be one over the other.

    • 5

Pull up on the top loop of your string in a rhythmic motion to create the boing boing effect. The yo-yo will bounce back and forth into the front string. This must be done quickly so the yo-yo does not lose its spin and becomes tangled or twisted in the string.
