Sorting the Toys
Sort through the toys and take a digital picture of any toys you hold especially dear. A photographic record of the toy will bring back the same memories and takes up little space.
Sort the toys into four piles: One pile for broken toys and toys missing integral parts or pieces; one pile for toys in good working order but not rare or collectible; one pile for toys with significant monetary value such as antiques and rare toys; a final pile for toys that you do not want to get rid of.
Toss the broken and unserviceable toys into the trash bin. If they are made up of recyclable material, drop them off at your local recycling center.
Place the toys you cannot let go of into plastic storage bins and label them. When you are ready to pass them on, you can easily find them.
Donating and Selling Toys
Drop toys with little significant monetary value off at a local day care, thrift store, hospital or donate to a local fundraiser.
Find out what your valuable toys are worth. Look at online auctions for comparable toys in similar shape. Conduct an Internet search. Keep in mind the prices may depend on the market, the area they are sold and the condition of the toy.
Price your toy and decide on a minimum amount. Consider an offer of 30 to 50 percent of the current market value as a serious offer.
Visit local antique malls, pawn shops, toy shops, comic book shops and flea markets with the toy. Advertise your toy via word-of-mouth or by hanging fliers. Alternatively, sell the toy online.
