How to Dismount Out of a Barrel Roll With a Yo-Yo

After the doll, the yo-yo is one of the oldest toys in the world. It was made of terra cotta in Greece and was popular with famous people in history, such as Napolean. In 1866 the yo-yo was first patented by Jeams Haven and Charles Hettrich. The toy's name, however, came from the Philippines, meaning "come-come," or "come back." This is due to the way the yo-yo snaps back to your hand when you end a trick. The world record for most yo-yo tricks done in one minute is fifty one and was set in 2004. The barrel roll is a type of trick that is a bit challenging for a novice. Add the barrel roll to your arsenal of tricks.

Instructions

    • 1

Release the yo-yo from your right hand and allow the yo-yo to loop around your left pointer finger. You'll know you did this correctly when the yo-yo string is looped around your left pointer finger. With the left hand slightly in front of your right hand, you will create a "V" with the yo-yo at the point.

    • 2

Place your right pointer finger in between the two strings that rest half an inch down from your left hand.

    • 3

Swing the yo-yo a little bit to gain momentum, and then swing the yo-yo toward you going under and over your right hand.

    • 4

Push your left hand forward, then bring it under the yo-yo so that your hand ends just under your right hand. To end on one rotation you can go immediately to step five. To continue the barrel roll you'd immediately continue to bring your left pointer finger under and over your right hand. Continue this motion of looping around your right hand until you're ready to dismount. The yo-yo string should be wrapping around your right pointer finger if you're performing this correctly.

Unravel the yo-yo by swinging the yo-yo away from your body and around your left finger. Snap the yo-yo back into your right hand.
