How to Make a PVC Fog Horn

A PVC fog horn can be great to have if you're looking to let people know where you are, or perhaps just have one in case of emergencies. You do not have to spend a lot of money to go out and purchase one. You can make your own fog horn right from materials that are found around the house and basic supplies from a hardware store.

Things You'll Need

40-psi to 50-psi air compressor
Air horn
6-inch-long straight PVC pipe
1 elbow PVC pipe
5-gallon portable air tank
1 foot of rubber tubing that is 1/2 inch in diameter
Brass clamp fittings that are 1/2 inch in diameter
Teflon tape

Instructions

  Attach the 5-gallon portable air tank to the air compressor. A 5-gallon tank provides the right amount of sound.

  Attach the air horn to the straight PVC pipe using the Teflon tape. This will make the horn for the air to go through to create the sound. The more air flow you have, the louder the horn will sound. Attach the elbow to the other end of the straight PVC pipe.

  Hook the rubber tubing to the air compressor using the Teflon tape and brass clamp fittings. Ensure that the brass fittings are tightly screwed over the tubing. This will give it a tight fitting.

  Take the other end of the rubber tubing and attach it to the end of the elbow PVC pipe using the Teflon tape.

  Let the air flow through the rubber tubing, and turn up the air flow to make a louder sound. Experiment using different amounts of air flow.
