How to Do a 4A Yo-Yo Trick

The yo-yo is a classic toy which remains popular today. While the yo-yo is most famously known as a spinning cylinder attached to a string, tied-on yo-yos are not the only style in use. Off-the-string yo-yos feature a spinning cylinder that is not attached to the string, allowing the user to perform tricks which include throws and catches. Tricks performed with an off-string yo-yo, such as the around the leg catch, are classified as 4A tricks.

Instructions

    • 1

Step over the string with the yo-yo spinning on the string, while holding the loose end of string in your second hand.

    • 2

Rock your hands from side to side, causing the yo-yo on the string to swing from side to side beneath your leg.

    • 3

Lift the hand holding the loose end up and away from the yo-yo as it crosses under your leg onto the same side as the loose end. This will cause the yo-yo to be thrown up in the air and over your leg.

    • 4

Move the string, if needed, so that the yo-yo lands onto the string as it comes down.

    • 5

Allow the yo-yo to roll back down the string to the loose-end side of your leg again and repeat the toss and catch five times.
