How to Turn the Long Shot Cs6 Nerf Gun Into a Halo 3 Sniper Rifle

Weapons featured in video games don't always become real-life toys gamer enthusiasts can buy. To make the sniper rifle from the popular Xbox "Halo 3" video game, adapt the foam dart-shooting Nerf Long Shot Cs6 toy rifle. Household tools will be needed as well as supplies from a craft store or hobby shop. Adult supervision is necessary if the person making the Long Shot into the "Halo" rifle is underage.

Instructions

    • 1

Place sheets of newspaper on a work surface. Put the Nerf Long Shot on the newspaper with the barrel facing left. Remove the screws from the top edge, bottom edge, left and right sides and around the trigger and on the gun stock, using a Phillips screwdriver. Pull the top plate off the Long Shot. Place the top plate on the newspaper.

    • 2

Cut through the magazine clip that is beneath the barrel at the left side of the Long Shot, using a utility knife. Break the clip off from the barrel. Repeat this procedure with the clip on the top plate.

    • 3

Remove the screw from inside the top of the Long Shot, next to the orange cylinder. Pull the cylinder and the plunger attached to its left side out of the top of the Long Shot. Lay this aside. Place the top plate back onto the Long Shot and reattach the screws.

    • 4

Measure 3 inches down from the top of each section of the magazine clip. Draw a horizontal line across the clip using a straightedge at the 3-inch mark. Cut through each horizontal line, using the straightedge and the utility knife.

    • 5

Glue the two 3-inch sections of the magazine clip together, using bonding glue. Let the clip set for three hours before continuing. Apply bonding glue to the top edge of the clip. Place the top edge of the clip against the bottom of the barrel, at the halfway mark between the tip and the trigger. Let the glue set for three hours before continuing.

    • 6

Place the cardboard square on the table. Measure 6 inches across from the lower-right corner. Measure 4 inches up and make a dot with the pencil. Measure 6 inches across from the upper-right corner. Cut a vertical line down the cardboard at the 6-inch mark until you reach the dot. Cut across to the right of the cardboard at the pencil mark. Remove the cutout from the cardboard.

    • 7

Place the cut cardboard, with the "L" shape facing right, on the left side of the Long Shot so that the upper-right corner touches the rod at the bottom of the viewing scope. Tape the cardboard to the side of the Long Shot with strips of masking tape. Repeat this procedure with the other square of cardboard and the other side of the Long Shot.

    • 8

Place a cardboard rectangle on the newspaper. Measure 2 inches in from the upper-left corner. Measure 2 inches up from the bottom-left corner and make a dot. Cut vertically through the cardboard at the 2-inch mark at the top until you come to the dot. Cut across to the left until you cut through the edge of the cardboard where the dot is located. Remove the cutout.

    • 9

Measure 4 inches in from the lower-right corner. Cut 2 inches up from the 4-inch mark, using a utility knife but no straightedge so that the cut is uneven. Cut across to the right of the cardboard from the 2-inch mark, using the utility knife but no straightedge so that the cut is uneven. Remove the cutout.

    • 10

Place the rectangle of cardboard against the stock at the back of the Long Shot. Line up the bottom of the cardboard so that it is even with the bottom of the gun stock. Tape the rectangle to the Long Shot with strips of masking tape. Repeat this procedure with the other rectangle of cardboard and the other side of the Long Shot.

    • 11

Shake the can of black spray-paint for 10 seconds. Spray the entire side of the Long Shot. Let the paint dry for at least four hours before continuing. Turn the Long Shot over.

    • 12

Shake the second can of black spray-paint for 10 seconds. Paint the side of the Long Shot that is now the "Halo 3" sniper rifle. Allow the paint to dry for at least four hours.
