How to Use the LEGO NXT Input 4

The NXT is a robotic educational tool manufactured by Lego Mindstorms Education. Lego Mindstorms Education specializes in the design and production of educational robotic devices. These products are aimed at facilitating the education of science, technology, engineering and mathematics in a way that is entertaining to children. The NXT has four ports, designated Input 1 through 4, which serve different functions. Input 4 is the default port for the Ultrasonic Sensor which measures the distance between the NXT unit and other objects. Testing the Input 4 Ultrasonic Sensor can help optimize its continued performance.

Instructions

      Test the Ultrasonic Sensor distance measuring function. Plug the Ultrasonic Sensor into the Input 4 port on the NXT controller. Use the left or right arrow to select "View" on the controller display, then press the orange button.

      Use the left or right arrow to select the Ultrasonic Sensor icon on the display, then press the orange button. Select the Input 4 port to which the Ultrasonic Sensor is connected. Input 4 is the default port for testing the Ultrasonic Sensor.

      Place a hand in front of the sensor. Move a hand away from the sensor and back toward it to verify the sensor is working. The display should indicate the changing measure of distance.
