How to Make a Raccoon Finger Puppet

While an actual raccoon will make you run for cover, you can hold this raccoon finger puppet with no problems. Fashion a raccoon finger puppet as part of a set of forest animals. Or, make half a dozen or more of these finger puppets for a gaze of raccoons. Use this finger puppet for an impromptu theatrical performance. You can also entertain a child by using the puppet as a prop while reading her a storybook.

Instructions

    • 1

Cut a 1 1/2-inch round shape from a sheet of gray felt. Cut out three 1/4-inch equilateral triangles and four 1/2-inch circles from black felt.

    • 2

Place the gray felt circle -- the raccoon's face -- on a flat surface. Position the two black triangles on the top of the circle spaced 1/2 inch apart with a corner pointing up for the raccoon's ears. Use hot glue to attach the triangles to the circle.

    • 3

Arrange the two black circles across the upper middle part of the raccoon's face for its signature ringed eyes. Attach the circles with hot glue. Place a small googly eye in the center of each black circle; attach these with hot glue. Hot-glue the remaining black triangle to the center of the raccoon's face just below the eyes with a corner pointing down for the nose.

    • 4

Stack two gray pipe cleaners together. Hold one end of the stems in the palm of your hand. Twist the stems around your index finger to form a spiral that will be the body of the raccoon finger puppet; the spiral should be a snug fit on your finger and not too loose so the puppet stays secure on your finger when in use. Curl the end of the stems that are in the palm of your hand around to complete the spiral. Wrap the ends of the stems around the ends of the spiral.

    • 5

Hot-glue the raccoon's felted face on the side of the gray spiraled body at the top end. Attach the remaining two black circles on each side of the body in the middle for the raccoon's hands with hot glue.

    • 6

Hold one gray and one black pipe cleaner together as one. Wrap these stems down the length of a toothpick. Cut away any excess length that goes past the end of the toothpick, to make the raccoon's tail. Place the spiral tail on the raccoon's spiral body on the opposite side of its face and at the bottom. Bend one end of the spiral tail around one of the spiral coils.

    • 7

Insert your index finger into the spiral body with the raccoon's face on the same side as your fingerprint.
