How to Thin Cyanoacrylate

Cyanoacrylate glue, commonly referred to as CA glue, has a variety of applications. Primarily used to adhere different types of plastic, CA glue bonds in a matter of seconds. This can present some safety difficulties, as it can bond two improperly joined pieces or bond human skin quite easily. CA glue comes in different thicknesses as well, and the standard thickness may prove too viscous for your gluing needs. You can thin CA glue safely with a simple technique and the right equipment.

Things You'll Need

Instructions

    • 1

Put on a respirator with fresh filters and working seals.

    • 2

Unscrew and remove the cap of an empty CA glue bottle.

    • 3

Fill the empty CA glue bottle half-full with CA glue.

    • 4

Fill the remaining portion of the bottle with extra thin CA glue. The ratio of the CA glue to the extra thin CA glue will determine the thickness of the mixture. The greater the amount of extra thin CA glue you add, the thinner the mixture will be.

    • 5

Stir the mixed CA glues with a wooden kabob stick.

    • 6

Remove the stick, replace the cap on the mixed CA glue bottle and screw it firmly in place.
