How to Make a Face With a Balloon

Creating shapes, faces and animals out of balloons is a great party trick for a kid's birthday party, circus or street fair. A face can be created out of a balloon by doing a series of twists and bubbles that form the features of the face. Use a flesh-colored balloon to make the balloon face more easily identifiable. Googly eyes can also be stuck onto the eyes to create a funny-looking face.

Things You'll Need

Instructions

    • 1

Inflate the balloon so it is approximately halfway full. Wrap the nozzle around the balloon, then pinch the balloon just above the nozzle. While holding the pinch, create a bubble by pinching about one-inch above the first pinch, then twist the bubble around 360 degrees to secure it. This is called a pinch twist. Above the pinch twist create a two-inch bubble by doing another pinch twist. This will be the cheek.

    • 2

Do another pinch twist half an inch above the cheek to create the left nostril. Above this do a one-inch bubble followed by a half-inch bubble. This will create the right nostril. Do a pinch twist in the middle of the right nostril to create a bubble inside the right nostril. Do a pinch twist to this bubble to make the body of the nose.

    • 3

Make a two-inch bubble just above the nose you created to form the other cheek, then follow that with a pinch twist the same size as the first pinch twist you created. The pinch twist will become the other ear.

    • 4

Make a large bubble to create the body of the head. Take the two twists you just created and pull them together, then turn them completely around the body of the balloon to do a lock twist.

    • 5

Drag the remainder of the balloon around the bottom to the other ear to form the bottom of the face. Create two two-inch bubbles at the bottom of the balloon, then lock twist them to the ear. This will make the jaw and bottom of the face.

    • 6

Blow up a second balloon so that it is approximately halfway full. Twist the nozzle into the nostril cavity to attach it. Make a two-inch bubble just below the nozzle. Create a pinch twist in the center of this bubble and attach it to the portion of the balloon that forms the top of the head.

    • 7

Do a pinch twist so that the rest of the balloon is facing the back of the face. Slip the remaining body of the balloon through the slot in the back of the face so that it is extending downward, creating a neck.

    • 8

Attach eye stickers to the eyes for a fun effect.
