How to Blow a Long Balloon

Often seen when making balloon animals, long balloons are pliable so that they can be twisted into the shapes that you want. Purchase these long balloons from party stores, but some may be available at larger retailers. Blow up these skinny balloons with air rather than helium. If you are just starting out, blow them up with a manual air pump. The amount of air you will put into the balloon will depend on how much twisting and maneuvering is needed for a certain balloon animal. The more twisting, the less air you want inside the balloon.

Instructions

    • 1

Stretch out your balloon longways to warm it up and give it a bit more elasticity.

    • 2

Insert the balloon pump's nozzle into the end of the balloon, and hold your fingers over it to give it an air-tight seal.

    • 3

Work the balloon pump so that air is inserted into the balloon. Do this slowly at first to see how much air is added to the balloon with each pump.

    • 4

Continue working the pump until the balloon is as full as you want it. Be careful not to over-pump your balloon. If it's getting close to the end, stop pumping it to prevent it from popping.

    • 5

Remove the balloon from the pump nozzle, still holding onto the end, creating that air-tight seal.

    • 6

Let any air out of the balloon by slightly opening your fingers that are holding the end of the balloon. Do this only if you are finding it difficult to tie or want less air in the balloon.

    • 7

Tie off the balloon with a knot.
