How to Make Moon Shoes

Moon shoes are kids shoes that let you bounce all over the place so you can pretend you are actually stepping without gravitational pull. A registered Nickelodeon trademark, moon boots stormed the market in the 1990s and were advertised as "trampolines for your feet." Now you can create your own bouncing boots and keep your kids entertained for hours. Producing your own boots might seem like a handful at first, but it will save you time and money in the long run.

Things You'll Need

  • Sneakers
  • Thick elastic
  • Gloves
  • Strong hot melt adhesive glue
  • 2 milk crates

Instructions

    • 1

Collect your milk crates and place them separately on your work bench. Make sure the open end is up so you can glue your materials easily. Place newspaper on your work surface to prevent stains or damage to the space.

    • 2

Place the hot melt adhesive glue onto your rubber sheets. Glue the rubber to the bottom of the milk crates. Hold it firmly in place so that the rubber firmly grips the milk crates. Cut any excess rubber around the bottom. The rubber will give you friction when bouncing so you do not fall over.

    • 3

Cut several pieces of thick elastic so they are long enough to cover the opening of the milk crate. Stretch the elastic across each side. Then, using the hot melt adhesive glue, attach the elastic to the milk crate so that it is held firmly in place. Allow the elastic to dry. Continue adding elastic pieces to the crates, and letting them dry, until it is strong enough to hold your weight firmly in place.

    • 4

Place one foot onto your milk crate. Make sure the elastic is glued tightly and can support your weight. If not, keep adding more elastic. You should be able to stand on the crate without it breaking. Once you achieve this, thread the hook and loop straps, such as Velcro, through the holes in the crates. Attach the straps to each crate. Glue the bottom of the straps to the milk crate.

    • 5

Place one foot onto the elastic and wrap the hook and loop straps around your foot. Leave some excess strap material but cut off anything that hangs from the foot. Fasten the straps and make sure you have three strong straps wrapping around your toes, heel and central part of the foot.

    • 6

Strap your feet up and bounce away.
