DIY Light Up Boucing Ball

Light-up toys are fun to have at raves, parties and outdoor nighttime events. The glow is eye-catching and entertaining for adults and children alike. Glowing toys are also a great way to keep kids busy before nighttime events such as fireworks. Glow sticks, commonly used in glowing toys, last from five to 12 hours. You can use miniature glow sticks to create your own light-up bouncing ball.

Things You'll Need

Rubber or plastic bounce ball, 1.5 inches or larger in diameter
Vise
Sharpie
Electric drill with approximately 0.5 cm size bit (8 or 9 gauge)
Safety goggles
1.5-inch mini glow stick

Instructions

  Clamp the ball in the vise. Mark the location where you plan to drill the hole with the Sharpie. Fit the bit to your drill, and put on your safety goggles.

  Drill a hole in the ball at the marked location. Ensure that you don't drill all the way through the ball, as the glow stick may fall out. Aim to make a channel that's slightly bigger than the glow stick.

  Bend the glow stick until it cracks and shake to distribute the chemicals. Slide the glow stick into your bounce ball, and enjoy your new toy.
