Things You'll Need
Instructions
Place the hatchet flat on the plank. Draw around it with a pencil. Cut out the shape with the saw.
Sand down all the edges until they are round and smooth. Make sure there are no rough edges or sections which could give splinters. Taper the edge of the ax blade slightly but keep it rounded.
Paint the handle of the toy ax brown and the blade silver. Hang it from a string as it dries or use a drying board which has a grid of nails banged into it and allows the paint to dry without laying it on a surface.
Check the toy regularly to make sure that the wood has not developed a split or that the edge is beginning to splinter. Sand off any loose splinters you find and repaint the toy.
