How to Solve Picture Cubes

A picture cube is a puzzle where several small cubes can be combined to create a larger picture. Up to six pictures can be made on a puzzle cube, and puzzle cubes are often categorized as being "six puzzles in one." Solving a picture puzzle requires a careful understanding of how the different pictures combine and the way the colors of each piece interacts with the other. A single layer features one layer of cubes that can display two complete puzzles, one on the top and bottom. A stackable multi-layered cube can display six, one on the top, one on the bottom and one on each of the four sides.

Instructions

Single Layer Puzzle

  Take out the pictures that come with the puzzle and examine them closely. Use them as a guide in solving your puzzle.

  Place your cubes on a table and examine the colors on each of the cubes. Choose which picture you want to create first from your cubes and turn your cubes until they are all on the appropriate colors. For example, if your picture is of a specific yellow flower, turn the cubes until you find that color on each of the cubes.

  Find your top row cubes using the pictures as a guide. Line these up next to each other and rotate the cubes until they are lined up properly. Always rotate the cubes when you get stuck in order to help find the correct position.

  Pick the next row of cubes, rotate and place them until they line up perfectly with the row above them.

  Continue lining up rows using this method until you are out of cubes. Push the cubes closely together to finish up the puzzle. Take the cubes apart and turn them over to make new pictures using the same method.
Multi-Layer

  Take out the cubes and the puzzle pictures and examine them carefully. Each puzzle layer will have an equal number of cubes but with different pictures printed on each side.

  Solve one layer of the puzzle by lining up the picture on the top of the cubes. Make sure the pictures on the sides of each cube match each other. For example, if one cube on the left side of your first layer has part of a red heart on it, make sure the other cubes on the left side continue to build onto the heart.

  Double check the position of your cubes in the first layer to make sure you are building your puzzle in a logical fashion. For example, make sure the point of your heart is pointing downward instead of upward. Fix this problem by turning over the cubes.

  Place your other cube layers on top of the bottom layer. Match up the cubes so that they continue to build onto the pictures displayed on each of the four sides. For example, the heart on the left side should continue to be built upon by cube sides with heart pieces.

  Continue building until you have placed all your layers. Make adjustments as necessary to your cubes to finish.
