Tekno Dog Tricks

Tekno robotic pets first came to life in 2000, with the toys designed to provide kids with an interactive play experience. Produced by Toy Quest, the canine options include Tekno the Robotic Puppy and Tekno the Newborn Puppy. These have basic intelligence when they come out of the box and, with a little training, can learn some fun tricks.
  1. Speak

    • Tekno dogs can perform a few speaking tricks. This includes standard dog noises, including barking and yipping when happy, whimpering when unhappy, growling when they want to play, and howling at the moon. In some models, the dog can laugh. The programming also enables the robotic pets to speak a few words, including "Tekno" and "Excuse Me," as well as "Thanks" and "Whoops."

    Play Ball

    • A Tekno dog comes supplied with a ball, which it can learn to play with. Attaching the ball to the face of the dog lets it move its head to throw it away. The dog can also learn to fetch on command, and this lets it walk after the ball. If the ball is not returned to it, the dog will moan and cry.

    Play Music and Dance

    • Tekno robotic dogs come programmed with music. When one of the songs starts playing, the dog will move along to the music using preset dance patterns. The dance moves vary by song.

    Make Rude Noises

    • Tekno dogs also can make rude noises, a trick that likely will amuse kids. The dogs can do this for a period of around 10 minutes, which is sure to bring a little laughter to a home.

    Tell the Time

    • The Tekno dogs have an internal clock that lets them keep time. This enables them to operate as an alarm clock. A useful trick they can perform involves waking up at a precise time and barking or playing a song. This can help an owner get up in the morning.

    Advanced Tricks

    • An advanced trick of the Tekno Newborn Puppy involves finding its ball. The toy comes supplied with a plastic frame, which has four doors behind which the ball can be hidden. The doors fold down. With the ball placed behind one of the doors, the dog will instruct someone to move the ball left or right by lighting up its left or right eye. On completion of a series of moves to "hide" the ball, the dog will bark. The number of times it barks indicates which door it wants lowered (three barks means to lower Door No. 3), indicating the ball is not behind that door. If the trick works correctly, the ball should always end up behind the door that remains standing. The Tekno Robotic Puppy has a similar trick, in which it can identify a card selected by someone using a plastic page supplied with the toy.
