How to Make Smoke Balls for Fireworks

Smoke bombs are fun to use when celebrating the Fourth of July. They can be found at fireworks stands across the country at this time of year and are very inexpensive. However, they are harder to find when they are not in season and there may not be a store nearby in some areas. Making your own smoke bombs at home can easily be done and provide enjoyment all year long.

Instructions

    • 1

Shape cardboard into a ball to use as a mold.

    • 2

Mix 30 grams of potassium nitrate together with 20 grams of sugar in a closed container.

    • 3

Pour the ingredients into a saucepan and put it on the hot plate.

    • 4

Heat the ingredients at a low temperature. Stir every 30 seconds as the mixture begins to turn brown. Remove it from the hot plate when the consistency is smooth like peanut butter.

    • 5

Put the mass into the cardboard mold. The mass will be sticky, so it will take some work to push it into the mold. Peel the cardboard away once you have the desired shape.

    • 6

Insert a fuse into the mass before it cools.

    • 7

Repeat Steps 5 and 6 with the remaining ingredients.

    • 8

Allow the smoke bombs to cool and harden for approximately 5 minutes. They are now ready to use.
