How to Mod a Nerf Laser Sight

Some Nerf-brand toy guns include a gun sight that for all practical purposes is just a low-powered telescope. You can modify, or "mod," a Nerf gun sight to mimic a laser sight like the ones used on sniper rifles. You can get the parts you need at an electronics store and around the house. Your laser sight modification will take advantage of the Nerf gun scope's target crosshairs, and soon you'll be able to fire Nerf projectiles with greater accuracy.

Things You'll Need

  • Red laser pointer pen
  • Batteries
  • 2 plastic locking ties

Instructions

    • 1

Unscrew the battery compartment cap at the back of the red laser pointer pen. Insert the correct type of batteries into the battery compartment. Screw the cap back on.

    • 2

Place the Nerf gun on its side on a table with the barrel pointing to the right. Place the red laser pointer pen against the side of the Nerf's gun sight with the lens of the pen facing to the right. Line up the lens at the end of the pen with the end of the gun sight closest to the barrel.

    • 3

Loop a plastic locking tie around the end of the gun sight and pen that is closest to the barrel. Insert the tip at the end of the plastic locking tie through the clamp slot.

    • 4

Pull the tip through the slot until the plastic locking tie is snug enough against the gun sight and pen to hold the pen in place. Secure the pen to the other end of the gun sight in the same way.

    • 5

Look at a spot on a wall through the gun sight on the Nerf gun. Press the button on the red laser pointer pen to turn the laser beam on.

    • 6

Adjust the pen so that the beam of laser light is as close as possible to the targeting crosshairs you see through the Nerf's gun sight.

    • 7

Tighten both of the plastic locking ties once you have adjusted the laser. Press the button again to turn off your modified laser sight once you are done playing.
