Instructions for a Boomerang

Boomerangs can be just as lethal of a hunting weapon as a bow and arrow. However, they can also make for fun throwing toys, if you've picked out an open field and learned how to throw them correctly. If you use the right technique, and have a quality boomerang, it will come right back to you after you throw it.

Instructions

    • 1

Choose an empty lot or field where you will be able to see the boomerang the whole time it's in the air. If you lose sight of your boomerang, it just might hit you before you notice it coming.

    • 2

Grip your boomerang using either the "pinch" or the "cradle" technique. It doesn't matter which one you use, so pick the one that is more comfortable. For the "pinch," make a fist and grasp the end of the boomerang between your thumb and index finger. For the "cradle," make a "thumbs up" sign, open your fingers slightly, and slide the end of the boomerang into your fingers, then hold tight. Your thumb should be on the same side as the paint or varnish.

    • 3

Stand so that you're facing directly into the wind. Your throwing motion will release the boomerang at a 45-degree angle to the wind this way, which is ideal.

    • 4

Throw the boomerang with an overhand motion. When you throw it, tilt the boomerang slightly toward your throwing side (right-handers will release with a slight tilt to the right, for example). Lessen the angle if there is high wind. When you release it, snap your wrist. When you've followed through, your arm should be straight in front of you, with your hand no higher than your nose.

    • 5

Adjust power as needed. If the boomerang flies back over your head, lessen the force. If it doesn't make it back to you, throw it harder.
