How to Lube a Rubik's Cube

The Rubik's Cube, also known as the Magic Cube, was the brainchild of Hungarian Ernö Rubik, who created the multicolored cube in the early 1970s. Eventually, the cube hit its pinnacle in the early 1980s, when kids and adults alike were captivated with cracking the cube and challenging one another in competitions to see who could solve the game the quickest. Naturally, a well-lubricated cube hastened the process of lining up each individual square so that each side of the six-colored cube matches.

Instructions

    • 1

Hold the cube in your non-dominant hand. Hold the screwdriver in your dominant hand and gently slide the flat head of the screwdriver into the space on the top row of the cube. Press up and down on the screwdriver until a single cube pops loose.

    • 2

Remove the two remaining cubes from the top row of the Rubik's Cube using the screwdriver as needed.

Dip a cotton swab into the cooking oil. Dab the swab on the inside surface of the RubiK's Cube that you revealed when removing the first row of cubes.

    • 4

Twist the top section of the cube from right to left, and continue dabbing oil on the exposed surface. Replace the cubes you removed.

    • 5

Repeat Steps 1 through 4 to lubricate the rest of your cube.

    • 6

Wipe excess oil off the outside of the cube using the paper towel.
